Part of the fun of being a Strategist is finding out about all the new sites, apps and gadgets that come out. Here are 3 examples that I’ve been using over the past few weeks:
1. Turntable.fm
Like a lot of startups today, I first heard about Turntable.fm on Twitter. Turntable.fm is an invite-only social music site currently in beta (don’t worry – it links through Facebook and you can get access if you have a FB friend who’s a member) that allows you to select tracks, DJ, vote and chat with friends. It’s really exploded over the past couple months, and it has a nice social aspect and great UI missing from a lot of other music sites.
2. Spotify
Spotify is a hugely popular music service in the UK that was just launched in the U.S. a couple weeks ago. I was able to secure an invite and play around with it this week, and it definitely lived up to the hype. On the free desktop application you’re able to basically search and play any song you can think of, send and receive songs to friends and listen to your friends’ playlists, which is my favorite feature.
I’ve used a number of different music services (Pandora, Last.fm, We Are Hunted, Soundcloud, The SixtyOne and of course, iTunes) and Spotify blows them all out of the water.
My only qualm is that the iPhone app is pretty useless only you pay for an upgraded membership. At this point I’m going to hold out.
3. Grooveshark
What sites did I miss? What are you using to listen to and discover new music today?

Great to see this post on the multiple music apps
For me the most interactive/fun app I’ve seen in a while is turntable.fm. The music sharing and discovery element is really palpable in this site.
I agree- turntable.fm is pretty cool and I like how interactive it is. but it’s definitely distracting! i think id rather be in the room listening than dj’ing- i just can’t take that rejection if people don’t like my song!!
